It is a very big responsibility to be a best man at a wedding and if you have been asked to do this job then you should be prepared for this. But there really is no need for you to get stressed out about this job as long as you avoid a number of common mistakes.

- Never assume that you will be able to give the best man speech without putting some effort into it. A lot of people just think that they will be able to wing it on the day but this is a huge mistake that has come back to haunt a lot of them. If you want to make sure that your speech is enjoyed by everyone and something for everyone to remember then you will have to plan it no matter how good you are at talking normally. Mumbling through a speech would not make for a very good wedding video for the couple because most people these days get their wedding recorded.

- It is advisable for you to make a few copies of your speech once you have prepared it. It would be dreadful if you realised on the day that you had misplaced your speech; these things do happen. If you have a second copy then this means that you have a safety net so long as this other copy is somewhere that you can get your hands on it quickly. You could also make sure that someone else had a copy of your speech just in case anything should happen and you could not make it on the day; that way the speech would already be prepared for whoever has to step into your shoes.

- Make sure that you don’t say anything upsetting in your best mans speech. You can be funny in your speech because this is expected although airing the dirty laundry of either the groom or the bride could end up spoiling the day so don’t do it.
